NJ Medicaid (NJ FamilyCare) Updates

Changes to NJ FamilyCare eligibility and renewal requirements may affect some New Jersey residents. Understanding these changes can help you stay informed about your health coverage.

What You Should Know

October 1, 2026: Changes to eligibility may affect certain non-citizen immigrants enrolled in NJ FamilyCare.

January 1, 2027: Certain adults ages 19 to 64 may be required to work, volunteer or attend school to qualify for or maintain NJ FamilyCare coverage. Some members will also need to renew their coverage every six months instead of annually.

Not everyone will be affected. If your insurance card says “Alternative Benefit Plan” or “ABP,” you may be among those affected by the January 2027 changes.
